Welcome to the Peter M. Hicks sketchbook archive.
A sketchbook is insightful. I’m obsessed with them, really… They tell you about the artist, they show you the workings of their mind – Peter Hicks (2019)
This is a non-profit educational resource to display Peter’s surviving sketchbooks, beginning in 1983 and hopefully continuing all the way to the present day. There are 23 sketchbooks between 1983 and 2000 so we have started with this first batch and as chronologically as possible. Due to the time it takes to present these, we will aim to put 1 sketchbook on the site every week. We hope you enjoy!
Sketchbook 4: 1989-91 Fryup Dale. Eskdale.
A sketchbook has it all. All the barnacles, bumps, scratches and scrapes – Peter Hicks (2019)
